“To share is to unite and empower”.
With this physical interactive installation called “We are Here” Vlisco will exactly do that and enable women from different countries who attend these events to share their voices and thoughts. Record your video message in the installation and have it played back in realtime on the screens onsite. Your voice becomes one screen in this ever growing database of female voices.
Mixed with animated graphic layers and ready to share with women who are in the same type of installation or event in different countries. Connect them all in an engaging way. Encouraging them to connect and empower. Make their voices heard. The installation was set up during the Vlisco events for International Women’s Month in Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin and Togo.
The installation itself revolves around 5 screens, showing recorded videos and Vlisco based fabric pattern animations. The center screen is used for the interface of the video recording system, the surrounding 4 screens do playback of all other videos.
To ensure a fast and smooth experience, Circus Family developed a custom flow for a two button system. This system allows users to record their message and during this recording, the system will detect certain spoken ‘hot words’. These words are pulled from the Vlisco Women’s Month 2020 manifest and contain words such as ‘women’, ‘empower’, ‘united’ and so on. When one of the words is detected, an animation containing that word overlays on the recording. Special animations made up of elements of the special Vlisco Women’s Month 2020 fabrics are also being overlaid on top of the recording. This results in a rich visual message, connecting with Vlisco’s Women’s Month message and fabrics.
When satisfied with the recording, submitting the video will start a chain of events. The user receives an unique code (written down by hostesses on site) enabling them to view, download or share the video online via a special Vlisco website. The recorded video will be added to the playback system and will be shown on one of the screens.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
All animations consist of elements of the Vlisco Women’s Month 2020 fabrics. The fabrics are also used on the back wall in the installation to keep a consistency between overlayed animations and recorded video.
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
The system consists of multiple pieces of software, communicating with each other and running on one workstation class laptop for portability. The two buttons used for interaction contain lights that react to the different stages of the interface.
When the video is recorded it will be uploaded to the special Vlisco website. There you can find, download and share your video with the use of the unique code. We have kept the website as simple as possible for the end user, but a lot is happening in the back-end. There is a database that contains all unique codes. And as soon as a code is entered, a validation takes place whether this code exists or not in combination with a video. If the combination exists, you will be able to view, download or share your video.
The admin from Vlisco has an overview of all the videos. This overview shows how often a unique code has been searched, downloaded and shared via social media.
